Fossil Pop Report (2026): PSA 10 Population for Every Holo, Every Printing
On this page
There are 3,049 PSA 10 Fossil cards in existence across the printings we track — and this page lists every one of them: the PSA 10 population of every Fossil holo, in both printings (1st Edition and Unlimited), with the gem-mint price next to each count. PSA's own population report now sits behind a login; ours is free, built on exact GemRate population chains, and refreshed monthly. It is one chapter of the full WOTC pop report — and the cost side of the same data lives in what a complete PSA 10 Fossil set costs.
How Many PSA 10 Fossil Cards Exist?
3,049 PSA 10s across the tracked chase printings — 12 of the 18 counts below are exact GemRate chains (the rest are modeled and marked †; a handful of printings have no resolvable chain at all and are omitted rather than guessed). The table is the full census, scarcest first. The pattern worth noticing before you scroll: the rarest gems in Fossil are not the 1st Editions. The stamp drove twenty-five years of grading submissions, so 1st Edition populations run deep — pop 409 Magneton, pop 378Zapdos — while the unstamped Unlimited holos went unslabbed and own every one of the set's thinnest counts.
How Many PSA 10 Fossil Dragonites Are There?
235 1st Edition and 60 Unlimited — 295PSA 10 copies of the set's face, total, across both printings. And the Unlimited count is the remarkable one: Dragonite #4 is the most-graded Fossil card we track, yet all those submissions have produced just 60 unstamped gems. Here is the full grade pyramid behind that number:
16,250 gradings, 60 tens — a 0.37% gem rate, one of the most brutal in the entire WOTC catalog. The 1999 print run wasn't kind to this card: dark borders, heavy holo, and a quarter century of binder wear mean the PSA 9 is the realistic ceiling for almost every raw copy. The market noticed in July — this is the card whose repricing made Fossil the hottest index of the month:

The Unlimited Gengar, at pop 51 — tied with the Unlimited Lapras (pop 51) and rarer than every 1st Edition card in the set. Both counts are exact chains, and the price gap between the tied pair is the strangest fact on this page: the Gengar trades at $16,000 while the Lapras has no verified holo gem sale on record at all — its $250 PSA 9s are the only live market, a floor for whatever the first public 10 eventually brings. For scale: there are more PSA 10 1st Edition Gengars (183) than Unlimited Gengars, Laprases, and Dragonites combined. Scarcity in Fossil lives in the printing nobody graded:

Unlimited, and it isn't close — on every Fossil holo where both printings have a resolvable count, the unstamped card is the scarcer gem. Ditto is 311 stamped gems against 49† unstamped; Gengar is 183 against 51. The side-by-side census — the orange number is the rarer printing:
| # | Card | 1st Ed pop 10 | Unlimited pop 10 | Rarer printing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| #1 | 204 | — | — | |
| #2 | 97† | — | — | |
| #3 | 311 | 49† | Unlimited | |
| #4 | 235 | 60 | Unlimited | |
| #5 | 183 | 51 | Unlimited | |
| #8 | 277 | — | — | |
| #9 | 232 | — | — | |
| #10 | 88† | 51 | Unlimited | |
| #11 | 409 | — | — | |
| #12 | 111† | 96 | Unlimited | |
| #13 | 85† | — | — | |
| #14 | — | 112† | — | |
| #15 | 378 | 20† | Unlimited |
Dragonite is the card where both sides of the census got priced in 2026: the pop-60 Unlimited trades at $7,380, and the pop-2351st Edition's verified April 2026 gem sale printed $24,000. Everywhere else the stamp still commands the premium while the unstamped card owns the scarcity.
Which Fossil Cards Are Hardest to Gem?
Gem rate is the other half of a pop report: not how many 10s exist, but what fraction of all submissions earned one. Fossil holds some of the most brutal gem rates in the hobby — three different Unlimited holos gem below half a percent:
| # | Card | Gem rate | PSA 10s / total graded | PSA 10 price | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1999 Fossil Unlimited Dragonite #4 | 0.4% | 60 / 16,250 | $7,380 | |
| 2 | 1999 Fossil Unlimited Gengar #5 | 0.4% | 51 / 13,313 | $16,000 | |
| 3 | 1999 Fossil Unlimited Lapras #10 | 0.4% | 51 / 13,086 | — | |
| 4 | 1999 Fossil Unlimited Moltres #12 | 1.1% | 96 / 8,577 | $396 | |
| 5 | 1999 Fossil 1st Edition Gengar #5 | 2.5% | 183 / 7,418 | $35,000 | |
| 6 | 1999 Fossil 1st Edition Dragonite #4 | 2.8% | 235 / 8,392 | $24,000 | |
| 7 | 1999 Fossil 1st Edition Aerodactyl #1 | 4.0% | 204 / 5,163 | $550 | |
| 8 | 1999 Fossil 1st Edition Kabutops #9 | 4.6% | 232 / 5,087 | $3,600 | |
| 9 | 1999 Fossil 1st Edition Zapdos #15 | 6.7% | 378 / 5,660 | $3,960 | |
| 10 | 1999 Fossil 1st Edition Hypno #8 | 6.7% | 277 / 4,129 | $2,130 |
Every card on that list under 1% is a card where the PSA 10 is the trophy and the PSA 9 is the market. If you're weighing a raw submission, the PSA 10 value calculator turns these gem rates into expected value.
Is Fossil Scarcity Priced In?
Only at the very top — and that spread is the most useful table on this page. Price divided by PSA 10 population is what the market pays per unit of gem supply:
| Card | PSA 10 price | PSA 10 pop | Price per pop unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1999 Fossil Unlimited Gengar #5 | $16,000 | 51 | $314 |
| 1999 Fossil 1st Edition Gengar #5 | $35,000 | 183 | $191 |
| 1999 Fossil Unlimited Dragonite #4 | $7,380 | 60 | $123 |
| 1999 Fossil 1st Edition Dragonite #4 | $24,000 | 235 | $102 |
| 1999 Fossil 1st Edition Kabutops #9 | $3,600 | 232 | $16 |
| 1999 Fossil 1st Edition Ditto #3 | $4,499 | 311 | $14 |
The Unlimited Gengar costs $314 per unit of supply; the 1st Edition Zapdos costs $14. Attention, not census data, sets vintage prices — which is exactly why the pop-51 Unlimited Lapras can sit with no public gem sale at all while an identical population of Gengar clears five figures. The full ranked scarcity list across all fifteen WOTC sets is in the 50 rarest WOTC cards, and the Fossil investing guide ranks these same cards by the money.
